Why safe storage matters
Cannabis products are not for:
Children
Pets
Adults who aren’t authorized patients
Accidental ingestion, especially of edibles, can be dangerous and very distressing. Safe storage helps prevent:
Curious kids grabbing candy-like gummies
Pets eating infused treats
Visitors misunderstanding what’s in a container
Basic storage rules to live by
No matter what format you use (flower, vapes, edibles, tinctures, concentrates):
Keep it locked, or at least out of reach and out of sight
A lockbox, locking cabinet, or dedicated, out-of-reach storage spot works well.
Store in original packaging when possible
Labels include dosing and ingredient info that’s helpful in emergencies.
Separate from regular food and snacks
Especially for edibles and infused products.
Avoid leaving products out “just for a minute”
That’s often when accidents happen.
If anyone in your home has a history of substance use disorder, talk with your healthcare team about additional safety strategies.
Extra precautions for edibles
Edibles are the most commonly confused with regular food.
Make it obvious they’re not standard snacks:
Keep them in child-resistant packaging
Store them in a separate, designated space (not the main snack drawer)
Consider using a clearly labeled, opaque container inside a locked space

Pets & cannabis
Pets process substances differently than humans do. Cannabis can be harmful to them.
Basic rules:
Don’t intentionally give your pet cannabis products unless it’s a veterinary-approved CBD product specifically designed for animals (and even then, talk to your vet).
Store all THC-containing products well away from pet access.
If a pet ingests cannabis, contact a vet or emergency clinic and be honest about what they ate and how much.
Responsible use basics
Alongside storing products safely, using them responsibly means:
No driving under the influence
Plan your rides before you medicate.
No sharing with non-patients
Only qualified patients with valid Arkansas medical cards (or approved visiting cards) can legally use medical marijuana.
No use in prohibited places
