Flower 101: How to Read a Cannabis Menu & Choose Strains at Arkansas’ Finest
Walking into a dispensary and seeing a wall of strain names, THC percentages, and abbreviations can feel like reading another language.
This Flower 101 guide is here to help you make sense of the flower menu at Arkansas’ Finest so you can choose products that actually match what you want out of your medicine.
If you need a broader overview of all product types, check out our Medical Marijuana 101: Product Types post, and our breakdown of sativa, indica, and hybrid labels.
What a typical flower listing tells you
On the online menu for your nearest Arkansas’ Finest dispensary, a single flower listing usually includes:
Strain name – e.g., “OG Kush,” “Blue Dream,” “Wedding Cake”
Type – sativa, indica, or hybrid (loosely describing the “family”)
THC % (and sometimes CBD %) – approximate potency
Brand / grower – which Arkansas cultivator produced it
Package size – grams, eighths (3.5g), quarters, etc.
Price – often listed as tax-included at Arkansas’ Finest
If you’re just starting out, don’t get obsessed with the highest THC number on the page. Higher THC does not always mean “better” for your needs.
THC percentage: what it does (and doesn’t) tell you
THC percentage is simply how much THC is present in the dried flower by weight.
Mid-range THC flower can still feel plenty strong for newer patients.
Very high THC doesn’t automatically equal a better experience and can feel overwhelming for some people.
Your tolerance, dose, and how you consume matter just as much as the number.

Sativa, indica, hybrid: treat them as loose lanes
Most menus tag flower as:
Sativa – often associated with more “uplifting” or daytime use
Indica – often associated with more “relaxing” or nighttime use
Hybrid – somewhere in between
These labels are a rough guide, not a guarantee. For a deeper dive into why, read Sativa, Indica, Hybrid: What Those Labels Actually Mean.
When in doubt:
Use the label as a starting lane, not a rule.
Pay more attention over time to which specific strains and terpene profiles you tend to like.
Terpenes: the “personality” of a strain
Some Arkansas brands and lab results list terpenes, the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell (and may influence how it feels). Common ones:
Myrcene – often associated with earthy, musky aromas
Limonene – citrusy, bright
Pinene – piney, sharp
Caryophyllene – peppery, spicy
If you find a strain you really like, take a look at its terpene profile (if available). You might find you consistently enjoy similar terpene combos, regardless of sativa/indica label.
How to choose flower based on your goals
Before you even open the menu, it helps to ask yourself:
Do I want this mostly for evening, daytime, or flexible use?
Am I comfortable with inhalation (smoking/vaping), or should I ask about low-THC or CBD-containing options?
How sensitive am I to THC?
Then, when reading the menu:
Filter by lane: sativa / indica / hybrid based on time of day.
Look at THC:
Newer or sensitive? Consider lower THC.
Experienced? You may be more comfortable with mid- to higher-THC, but there’s no prize for maxing out the number.
Check the brand: Stick with Arkansas brands you’ve liked before.
Ask your budtender: Say what you’re hoping to feel (and not feel).
